Effective Leadership Moving Yonkers Forward
I came to Yonkers, N.Y. as a 4 year old who did not speak English, now I am the first Jordanian American in the New York State Assembly, representing our beautifully diverse city of Yonkers.
The opportunities that made me who I am today must continue to be available to all Yonkers residents who want a fair deal, the opportunity to succeed and provide for their families. I look forward to working with you in this important mission. Thank you.
Westchester County Deputy County Executive Ken Jenkins MC'd the Nader Sayegh Fall Festival Event at the Grand Roosevelt Ballroom, and introduced Assemblyman Sayegh.
The Assemblyman's remarks are at this link:
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano served in the State Assembly prior to seeking the Mayor's post. He says Nader Sayegh understands the needs of our city and how to articulate that at the State Capitol, consistently delivering results.
Assemblyman Sayegh Statement on Crime and Safety.
Fighting Inflation
Nader passed a Statewide Ban on Sales Taxes on Diapers, voted to send hard-pressed home owners additional property tax rebate checks this year and voted to suspend the New York State Tax on gasoline.
Record Yonkers Public School Funding
In 2022 Nader delivered a record $249.3 million in State Aid for Yonkers Public Schools, restoring Sports, Music, Art and obtained State funds for building improvements like the new Lincoln High School Auditorium.
Protecting Workers Safety
Nader backed Carlos' Law to crack down on employers who oversee unsafe construction sites and he joined picket lines to support safe staffing for nurses. He also supported a $3,000 bonus for COVID-19 front line health care workers and hourly raises for home care workers.
Protecting Single Family Neighborhoods
Nader continues to oppose the Governor and advocates who support a State Zoning take over that would have hurt single family neighborhoods.
Protecting Women's Reproductive Rights
Nader voted to preserve choice in the Empire State, and passed legislation to prevent discrimination based on one's personal health decisions.
Protecting Public Safety
Nader voted to enact new laws to protect New Yorkers from gun violence. They strengthened our red flag law, raised the age to purchase a semiautomatic rifle to 21, made it unlawful to sell or possess bulletproof vests for most individuals, created a new crime of making a threat of mass harm and required social media platforms to provide an easily accessible way to report hateful content. He also obtained Assembly grants to support our Yonkers Police Department, and voted for $1 million in funding for neighborhood violence prevention programs in Yonkers.
Protecting Our Environment
Nader voted for the Advanced Building Codes, Appliance and Equipment Efficiency Standards Act to increase energy efficiency in our buildings and appliances.
Tens of thousands who returned to their jobs or school south of Canal Street in the months after 9-11 were exposed to harmful toxins. They are eligible for health benefits through the Victims Compensation Fund, but only 1 in 10 have registered. My legislation would require employers to contact them.
Thanks to all my legislative colleagues, friends and family members who have helped me as I work to deliver for the City of Yonkers. Together we support efforts to create an economy that works for everyone.
